MISS AMERICA’S OUTSTANDING TEENS PROMOTE CAREER EXPLORATION WITH GIRLS KNOW HOW BOOKS

Tampa, FL – August 1, 2009 – Miss America’s Outstanding Teen is partnering with Girls Know How® (Downingtown, PA) to promote reading and career exploration to elementary and middle school children across the country. Girls Know How comprises a fictional series of fun, entertaining chapter books that encourage readers ages 8 to 12 to pursue the careers of their dreams.

To launch the relationship, Girls Know How is sponsoring the Princess Makeover Party as part of the Miss America’s Outstanding Teen 2009 Pageant festivities in Orlando, Florida, on August 14.

The same day, author Ellen Langas Campbell will lead a career workshop for the Miss America’s Outstanding Teen State Titleholders, who will be named Official Girls Know How Ambassadors and receive a complete set of books to donate to their own elementary schools or community libraries. The teens also will be provided with everything they need to conduct programs about career exploration for students at home.

"The message of our books is simple,” says Ellen. “With desire, hard work and positive role models, girls really can achieve their personal and professional ambitions. Miss America’s Outstanding Teens perfectly embody our core belief, and we’re thrilled to be working with these remarkable young ladies.”

A former Miss America state finalist, Ellen spoke on family and women's issues statewide as Mrs. Pennsylvania 1994. Prior to founding NouSoma Communications, Inc., a marketing, publishing and public relations company, in 1995, she was an officer of billion-dollar QVC, Inc. where she originated the Public Relations Department and gained national visibility as a popular on-air host and consumer spokesperson. She also is an accomplished commercial actress and voice-over artist.
